Lagu balada rock ikonik “Iris” dirilis pada tahun 1998 dan menjadi signature song dari Goo Goo Dolls. Awalnya diciptakan oleh vokalis/gitaris John Rzeznik untuk soundtrack film romantis fantasi “City of Angels” yang dibintangi Nicolas Cage dan Meg Ryan.

Judul lagu ini diambil dari nama karakter dewi Yunani, Iris, yang juga merupakan nama salah satu karakter dalam film yang diperankan oleh Meg Ryan. Sebelum kesuksesan besar ini, Rzeznik sempat mengalami writer’s block dan bahkan mempertimbangkan untuk keluar dari band. “Iris” menyelamatkan kariernya.

Lagu ini mencetak rekor 18 minggu di posisi teratas tangga lagu radio Hot 100 Airplay Billboard dan dinominasikan untuk dua penghargaan Grammy.
